Connect Your Domain (Nameservers)
Transfer DNS management to Cloudflare for CDN protection and full DNS control. Your Reputifly admin will provide 2 nameserver values.
When To Use This Approach
Choose the nameserver approach when:
- You want Cloudflare CDN + DDoS protection for your website
- You're setting up a brand-new domain with no existing email
- Your Reputifly admin specifically requested nameserver changes
If your domain already has working email, consider the A Record approach instead — it's simpler and doesn't require nameserver changes.
What You Need
- Access to your domain registrar's account (not just the DNS panel — the nameserver settings)
- The 2 nameserver values from your Reputifly admin
Step-By-Step Guide
Get Your Nameserver Values From Your Reputifly Admin
Your admin will provide 2 nameserver addresses. They look like
ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com. Keep these ready.Log Into Your Domain Registrar
Go to your domain registrar (Exabytes, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, etc.) and navigate to your domain's management page.
Find "Nameservers" Or "DNS Servers" Settings
Look for the nameserver configuration section. This is not the same as "DNS Records" — nameservers are usually under "Domain Settings", "Nameservers", or "DNS Servers". Some registrars may require you to select "Custom nameservers" or "Use custom DNS".
Replace The Existing Nameservers
Remove all existing nameserver entries and enter the 2 values provided by your Reputifly admin. Make sure there are no extra nameservers — only the 2 provided values should remain.
Write down or screenshot your current nameservers before replacing them, in case you need to revert.
Save And Wait For Propagation
Save the new nameserver settings and wait 1–24 hours for global propagation. Your Reputifly admin will activate your site once the nameserver change is detected.
Email Notice
Important: If you have existing email on this domain, your Reputifly admin must verify that your email records (MX, SPF, DKIM) were imported correctly before you switch nameservers. If unsure, use the A Record approach instead.
Troubleshooting
My email stopped working after changing nameservers
Your email DNS records (MX) may not have been imported to the new DNS provider. Contact your Reputifly admin immediately — they can add your MX records. As a quick fix, switch your nameservers back to the original values to restore email while the issue is resolved.
It's been 24+ hours and my site still isn't working
Nameserver changes can take up to 48 hours in rare cases. Check propagation at dnschecker.org. If it's still not working, verify you entered the nameservers correctly (no typos, no extra spaces).
I can't find where to change nameservers
Nameserver settings are usually separate from DNS records. Look for "Nameservers", "DNS Servers", or "Domain Settings" in your registrar's control panel. Some registrars require you to unlock the domain first.
Can I switch back to my old nameservers?
Yes. Changing nameservers is fully reversible. Switch back to your old nameserver values and your domain will return to its previous state within 1–24 hours.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between nameservers and A records?
Nameservers control who manages all your DNS. A records control where one specific thing (the website) points. Nameservers are a bigger change — they move everything.
Will this affect my email?
It can, if your email DNS records aren't properly imported to the new nameserver provider. Always confirm with your Reputifly admin before switching.
How long does propagation take?
Nameserver changes take 1–24 hours typically, up to 48 hours maximum. Longer than A records because every DNS resolver worldwide needs to update.
